Vibrant Landscapes, Personal Ties
Utah has a landscape unlike anywhere else, from red rock canyons and sprawling deserts to alpine forests, mountains, and salt flats. But we don’t just want beautiful descriptions of Utah. We want to know what these places mean to you!
We’re looking for work that explores the connection between Utah’s landscapes and its people—where the land shapes a memory, an identity, a relationship, or a story.
We’re accepting:
-
Flash fiction: up to 250 words
-
Poetry: up to 30 lines
-
Artwork: for the ebook cover design
The contest is completely free to enter and is open to Utah residents as well as those with deep ties to the state.
Submission Deadline: September 20, 2026
Selected pieces will be featured in an ebook, and winners will be announced at the Southern Utah Book Festival, where selected writers will also have the opportunity to participate in live readings.
